Vitamin A as a “Beauty Vitamin”
Vitamin A is the “beauty vitamin” it helps to keep the skin smooth and soft. It is also needed for the mucous membranes lining the nose, throat, and bronchial tubes, as well as the entire digestive tract, the bladder, kidneys, and pelvic organs. Vitamin A aids in the normal growth of bones and teeth, particularly in children and young people.
When vitamin A is absent, the skin becomes thick and rough, the eyes appear dull and lusterless. Infection arises in various parts of the body. Kidney and bladder stones are more common in people whose diets are deficient in a vitamin A. this vitamin helps to fight factious disease. It keeps our eyes bright and helps us to see in a dim light. Without vitamin A our vision would soon be impaired.
Vitamin A is formed from a chemical substance known as carotene, which is present in all leafy vegetables, and also in carrots, sweet potatoes, squash, avocados, melons and similar fruits. Carotene is quickly absorbed by the body and then stored in the liver where it is changed into vitamin A for use wherever it may be needed. Any diet containing an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables will also be rich in vitamin A.
