I look at people drinking Diet Soda. They are all fat. Give me the real thing, I’m not overly fat. I limit my Real Thing. But here some Healthy facts about Diet Soda via Yahoo Healthy News.

We talk a lot about ”watching what we eat,” but if you never gave a thought to what you ate and instead watched only what you drank, you could probably cut 450 calories a day out of your life. (Yes, nearly a pound of fat loss a week!) That’s what a study from the University of North Carolina found. Americans today drink about 192 gallons of liquid a year—or about 2 liters a day. To put it into perspective, this is nearly twice as many calories as we did 30 years ago.

When confronted with the growing tide of calories from sweetened beverages, the first response is, “Why not just drink diet soda?” Well, for a few reasons:

Just because diet soda is low in calories doesn’t mean it can’t lead to weight gain.

It may have only 5 or fewer calories per serving, but emerging research suggests that consuming sugary-tasting beverages–even if they’re artificially sweetened–may lead to a high preference for sweetness overall. That means sweeter (and more caloric) cereal, bread, dessert–everything.

Guzzling these drinks all day long forces out the healthy beverages you need.

Diet soda is 100 percent nutrition-free, and again, it’s just as important to actively drink the good stuff as it is to avoid that bad stuff. So one diet soda a day is fine, but if you’re downing five or six cans, that means you’re limiting your intake of healthful beverages, particularly water and tea.

There remain some concerns over aspartame, the low-calorie chemical used to give diet sodas their flavor.

Aspartame is 180 times sweeter than sugar, and some animal research has linked consumption of high amounts of the sweetener to brain tumors and lymphoma in rodents. The FDA maintains that the sweetener is safe, but reported side effects include dizziness, headaches, diarrhea, memory loss, and mood changes. Bottom line: Diet soda does you no good, and it might just be doing you wrong.

The best way to hydrate is by drinking low-calorie, high-nutrient fluids—and avoiding belt-busting beverages like the 20 Unhealthiest Drinks in America.

Now that you have a hold on your liquid assets, upgrade the rest of your grocery list by avoiding the 13 Worst “Healthy” Foods in the Supermarket. With so many items to choose from, it’s easier to fall victim to packaged food lies than you think.

Normally we breathe in and out about fifteen times a minute, the total amount of the air at rest being about one pint each time we breathe. Our lungs hold about six pints of air, so that approximately one sixth of the air is exchanged every time we take a breath. Naturally when we are exercising strenuously a great deal more air will be exchanged.

Germs are dealt with in a different way. The respiratory passages are lined with a delicate mucous membrane on which innumerable hair-like projections or cilia are present. There are also numerous small glands that produce a thin film of sticky mucus on which dust particles and germs will lodge. This mucous film or “blanket” is constantly moved by the cilia, or hair-like projections, toward the back of the throat so that a new mucous blanket is formed very fifteen minutes. The old one passes down into the throat and stomach where the hydrochloric acid quickly destroys any germs that may be present.

This constant, self-changing mucous blanket is very important to our health. If the underlying mucous membranes become irritated, the glands work overtime to protect the cells, increasing the production of mucous and flooding the nasal passages. When this happens it may be difficult for us to breathe. This frequently happens in colds and hay fever.

Many people are allergic to various forms of pollen, dust, powders, or perfumes, not to mention that plague of modern cities known as smog! But one of the most frequent offenders is tobacco. Any person who smokes heavily is likely to cough, because the smoke from the burning tobacco irritates the membranes of the nose and throat. This is so-called “smoker’s cough.” Nature is trying to protect these sensitive membranes from irritation and injury. Even though there may be no cough, the mucous membranes are often greatly irritated.

Something similar happens in other types of allergy. Hay fever is very common at certain times of the year. In the spring the trouble may be due to various forms of fun floating in the air. In summer it may be pollen or dust.

Typical Filipino Christmas Food
Does your diet fail each year because of Christmas? Holidays are almost always relegated to as the time when everyone gains a few pounds. This year though, it doesn’t have to be that way. Here are four pain-free ways you can stay on your diet this Christmas:

Drink lots of water
Even as with any diet, drinking more water is all important any time, but especially so during the holidays. Your body can get dehydrated without you even realizing it. Instead of pouring a glass of wine or sugar-filled drinks, choose for a bottle of cold water instead.

Have a pep talk with yourself
All too often, diets are booted out the window during Christmas because you know how much food you are going to be around. You think that you might as well forget about your diet because there’s no way you’ll be able to stay on it while you celebrate. You’re wrong. Half the battle of sticking to a diet is having a made up mind that you are going to be successful this time. Prompt yourself of this every time you reach for another potato chip or slice of pecan pie.

Exercise often
Getting exercise during Christmas is actually not nearly as impossible as you might think. Simple things make a big difference, like parking far when you shop and walking a ways to get to the store. Instead of riding the escalator in the mall, take the stairs.

Eat half as much
Cutting down on your portions can dramatically reduce your chances of falling off the diet wagon. Grab a small saucer instead of a full-sized plate. Get a cup of punch that is half-full, if you must drink punch, rather than full to the top. These tiny steps are doable by anyone and can make a huge difference.

There may be no place on the planet more daunting than the American supermarket. From the produce section to the frozen-food aisle, the modern day market is loaded with 50,000 food choices, all vying for your hard-earned money. And there’s no better way to start slimming down in 2009 than by eliminating the most egregious offenders in the supermarket from your shopping cart. That’s why we created the Eat This, Not That! Supermarket Survival Guide: to help you cut through marketing mysteries and food-label lies in order to make the smart choices that lead to fast and permanent weight loss for you and your loved ones.

Some are conspicuous calorie bombs, others are junk food masquerading as healthy food, but all of these foods have one thing in common: They will undermine your efforts to lose weight and feel great in the New Year. So study up on the list of the Worst Supermarket Foods (and while you’re at it, don’t forget the 20 Worst Restaurant Foods in America), and resolve to master your market in 2009!

1. Worst Packaged Food in America

Marie Callender’s Creamy Parmesan Chicken Pot Pie

1,060 calories
1,440 mg sodium
64 g fat (24 g saturated)

Marie Callender’s perpetrates the ultimate sleight of hand here: The nutrition information says this medium-size entrée has two servings, but honestly, when have you ever split a potpie? Lard-strewn pastry tops and cream-based fillings are the lowest common denominators of the nutritionally nefarious potpie, and this one, with an ingredient list that reads like an O-Chem final, beats out dozens of horrendous iterations to earn this special place on our list.
Sodium Equivalent: 8 small bags of potato chips
Fat Equivalent: 23 strips of bacon
Calorie Equivalent: 7 Taco Bell Fresco Beef Tacos

Eat This Instead!
Marie Callender’s Oven Baked Chicken (369 g)
320 calories
990 mg sodium
12 g fat (3 g saturated)

2. Worst Frozen Entrée

Hungry-Man Classic Fried Chicken
1,020 calories
1,570 mg sodium
57 g fat (12 g saturated)

They should rename the company Hungry-Men, because there’s no way a single man needs more than a pound of fatty fried chicken, oily potatoes, and a brownie.
Calorie Equivalent: 5 Krispy Kreme Original Glazed Doughnuts

Eat This Instead!
Banquet Select Chicken Parmesan
350 calories
870 mg sodium
15 g fat (3.5 g saturated)

3. Worst Frozen Pizza

DiGiorno for One Garlic Bread Crust Supreme Pizza
850 calories
1,450 mg sodium
44 g fat (15 g saturated, 3.5 g trans)

The bloated crust and the greasy toppings will saddle you with 60 percent of your day’s sodium, 75 percent of your day’s saturated fat, and nearly twice the amount of trans fats you should take in daily.
Calorie Equivalent: 6 slices Domino’s Thin N Crispy Cheese Pizza

Eat This Instead!
1,440 mg sodium

Here’s your first clue that this meal has issues: The ingredient list-in its squinty small type-is a full 4 inches long. It includes just about every form of fat and sugar you can imagine. Your child deserves better.
45 g sugars
24 g fat (14 g saturated, 1.5 g trans)

Skip past the enriched flour and water on the ingredient list and here’s what you get: animal shortening, corn syrup, high-fructose corn syrup, sugar, modified corn starch, butter, chocolate liqueur, and so on. Any one of these ingredients alone might prompt you to raise an eyebrow, but taken together they should invoke a gag reflex and a sprint for something far healthier.

Do you really want more than a quarter of your day’s calories to come from an ice-cream novelty? If you’re going to take in this much fat and calories in one sitting, it better be dinner.

9. Worst Baked Good

Otis Spunkmeyer Banana Nut Muffins (1 muffin, 114 g)
460 calories
22 g fat (3 g saturated)
2 g fiber
32 g sugars

Despite popular belief, muffins are very rarely healthy. Case in point: The first ingredient in this muffin is sugar. The result is metabolic mayhem: Blood sugar climbs, pancreas goes into overdrive, and the body begins storing sugar as fat. Shortly after, you’ll feel sluggish and crave more sugar.
Sugar Equivalent: 3 1?2 Rice Krispies Treats

450 calories
25 g fat
(7 g saturated, 3.5 g trans)
1,140 mg sodium

Once again Alfredo proves itself to be the biggest belt-busting option on the shelf. This side has a meal’s worth of calories, and if you try to turn it into a meal in itself, expect to top 1,000 calories.
Sodium Equivalent: 4 medium orders of McDonald’s French fries

420 calories
12 g fat (7 g saturated)
6 g fiber
30 g sugars

Granola, for all its good reputation, is usually weighed down by a deluge of added sugars. In fact, for the same amount of sugar, you could have a bowl of Cocoa Pebbles more than twice the size-and you’d get more fiber and save about 60 calories in fat.
Calorie Equivalent: 8 chicken wings

353 calories
0 g fat
82 g sugars

It claims to be blended juice, but only 5 percent of this can is any sort of real-fruit derivative. The remaining 95 percent is a blend of water and high-fructose corn syrup.

15. Worst Ice Cream

Häagen-Dazs Chocolate Peanut Butter (1?2 c)
360 calories
24 g sugars
24 g fat (11 g saturated)

Häagen-Dazs makes great-tasting ice cream with an impressively short ingredient list, but that doesn’t make up for the fact that their pints are consistently the fattiest in the freezer.
Fat Equivalent: 1 McDonald’s Double Cheeseburger

16. Worst Condiment

Eggo Original Syrup (1?4 c)
240 calories
40 g sugars

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but not when this sugar slick hits the table. Excluding water, the first three ingredients are all different forms of sugar. If you want real syrup, make sure it’s 100 percent maple.
Sugar Equivalent: Two Häagen-Dazs Vanilla & Almond ice cream bars

17. Worst Candy

Twix (1 package, 2 oz)
280 calories / 27 g sugars
14 g fat (11 g saturated)

Twix takes the already-dubious candy-bar reputation and drags it through a murky pool of saturated fat. With more than half the USDA’s daily consumption recommendation for these dangerous fats in each package, this is one hazardous after-lunch snack.
Saturated Fat Equivalent: 11 strips of bacon

18. Worst Yogurt

Stonyfield Farm Whole Milk Chocolate Underground (6 oz)
220 calories
5 g fat
(3 g saturated)
36 g sugars

Stonyfield is notorious for being a little too generous with the sugar, but the nearly 3 tablespoons in their Chocolate Underground is bad even by their supersweet standards. Not even Ben & Jerry’s makes a flavor of ice cream with this much sugar.
Sugar Equivalent: 4 Cherry Popsicles

Eat This Instead!
Breyers’ Cookies n’Cream YoCrunch Lowfat with Oreo Pieces (6 oz)

19. Worst Cookie

Pillsbury Big Deluxe Classics White Chunk Macadamia Nut (dough; 1 cookie, 38 g)
180 calories
10 g fat
(3 g saturated, 2 g trans)
13 g sugars

Stick to Nestlé Toll House when it comes to big-brand cookie dough; the people of Pillsbury have a penchant for scattering trans fats across your market’s refrigerated section. This cookie has one load of dangerous oils mixed into the flour and another blended with sugar and interspersed throughout the dough as “white confectionery chunks.”
Fat Equivalent: 5 “fun” size 3 Musketeers bars

Eat This Instead!
Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough (1 1?2-inch ball, 28 g)

20. Worst Crunch Snack

Gardetto’s Special Request Roasted Garlic Rye Chips (1?2 cup, 30 g)
160 calories
10 g fat
(2 g saturated, 2.5 g trans)
40 mg sodium

Gardetto extracts the worst part of its Original snack mix and tries to serve it as a gourmet snack-a sneaky move that might have serious repercussions for even casual munchers. Each single serving exceeds the amount of trans fat deemed safe to consume daily by the American Heart Association.
Fat Equivalent: 3 strips of bacon

Nothing is more frightening to any parent than seeing his child have a serious convulsion. The attack is usually very dramatic, but lasts only a few seconds. The baby’s eyes roll upward and the body twitches violently. Most convulsions in young children are related to some infection in the nose and throat, or perhaps the onset of some more generalized childhood infection.

Here is what to do:
Call your doctor at once. While he is coming, place the baby in bed, face down, to allow the secretions to drain from the mouth. Cover his body with cool wet towel and place a small ice bag on the head.

Take the temperature rectally but not when the child is actually having a convulsion. Save any stool specimen for the doctor to see. Draw the blinds and keep the child quite. If he has a high fever, sponge him with slightly warm water.

When a child has convulsions but no fever, the trouble may be due to some form of epilepsy. Take the child to your family doctor for further diagnoses and treatment. fortunately babies rarely die from a convulsion, but they should always be given proper medical care without delay.

Gonorrhea is another venereal disease which is almost always transmitted by sexual contact. It is caused by a tiny bean-shaped germ called a gonococcus. In some cases, the disease may also be contracted from contaminated hands, instruments, clothing, contaminated toilet seats, and even bath water. This is particularly true in the case of little girls; all of them are extremely susceptible to this disease.

Symptoms:
Burning on urination may be the first sign of trouble. There may also be a sense of urgency6 and frequency of urination, and in addition, a profuse greenish-yellow discharge. In the male the end of the penis may be red and swollen. In the female the glands around the opening to the vagina may be hot and swollen, and there may be a thick yellow discharge present during the acute stage. However, many adult women carry the germs for a long period of time without realizing they have a disease, and may readily transmit the germs during sexual intercourse. A chronic discharge is common in both sexes. In young children, particularly little girls, there may be marked redness and swelling of the genital organs with burning on urination. If a mother happens to be infected with gonorrhea, there is great danger of a newborn infant contracting the disease during the process of birth. Unless properly treated, this may result in complete blindness later in life.

Complication:
Not only is there pain and discomfort in both sexes during the acute phase of gonorrhea, but many cases of sterility may result from this very serious infection. In the male the prostate gland becomes infected and there may be narrowing of the urinary canal, resulting in slow urination. In the female the fallopian tubes may become closed by an abscess and the inflammation may spread to the whole female pelvis. There may fever, nausea, vomiting, and severe pain in the lower abdomen. Many cases of suspected “appendicitis” were later found to be due to gonorrhea. If the germ invades the bloodstream there may be inflammation in the larger joints, such as the knees, ankles, shoulders, elbows, as well as inflammation in the eyes.

Treatment:
Penicillin is still the best drug for treating this serious disease. At least 600,000 units should be given every day for seven to ten days. Large doses of Terrifying can be used if the patient is sensitive to penicillin.

The frightful price of promiscuous living is only too obvious to all sensible people. Prostitutes are dangerous, not only young men, but also to the young women they marry, and later to their unborn children. Syphilis and gonorrhea are always hazardous to any young person. In addition, there is always the problem of teen-age pregnancy, and the finding of oneself tied for life to someone who is really not a suitable companion. An unwanted pregnancy may force a may be later followed by separation and divorce. If not, there is always the feeling of guilt due to unhappy memories that remain for life.

Many young men are scared away from early sex contacts through fear of pregnancy, but this is not always true in the young men. There are plenty of “easy” girls around to trap the unwary and spread disease. Too many young women are all too easily led into unwanted sex contacts because of a desire to be popular. As a result, venereal disease is on the increase today all over the world, in spite of all our modern medicines. Some young men may boast of their conquest when in reality they have never had any experience at all. They are only talking this way because they think it is virile and masculine. But the truly manly young man will never descend to telling lies, nor will he be foolish enough to try to outdo his fellows with questionable women.

Here is where parents can help. Fathers need to get close to their sons, taking them out of short trips, just the two of them together. Such occasions are among the happiest memories in life. The same is true with young women. If their mothers would make pals of their girls instead of lecturing to them, life would hold far more beautiful relationships for both of them. What is more, they would learn how to conduct themselves aright instead of allowing their emotions to control them.

Life can be unbelievably beautiful when there is a close relationship between husband and wife, and when they are both well-matched in mind and body and really remain true to each other. This should be the goal of every young person, and in so doing, they will lay the foundation of a happy home which they can enjoy for the rest of their lives.

Chickenpox is a mild disease affecting almost all children during their early years. Many investigators think this rather mild virus disease is closely related to a much more serious condition that affects adults, called shingles or herpes zoster. Next day skin may be flushed and hot. Later small teardrop-shaped blisters appear on the skin, mostly on the upper back or chest. In more severe cases the face and extremities are also involved. Within a few days the skin clears up and the child feels well again.

Treatment:

Bathe the skin daily with soap and warm water. Keep the child’s nails closely clipped to prevent scratching; otherwise germs on the skin may be scratched into the blisters causing more severe infection. Calamine lotion and talcum powder are helpful in controlling the inching. In more serious cases penicillin or some other antibiotic may be needed to control secondary infection of the skin.
