A recent article in The International Journal if Lower Extremity Wounds looked at the result of 38 studies on the subject. Tweenty-two of those studies were done on more that 2,000 humans abd 16 studies were done on animals. After looking at all the results, it’s clear that honey, when applied topically, can do several things. First, it acts as an antibacterial both by clearing up infections and preventing future ones. Second, it has anti-inflamatory properties, which helps reduce swealling and scarring. It also helps eliminate the bad odor that can sometimes accompany a wound and lastly, it stimulates the growth of certain tissue to speed up the healing process.
