First Aid Eye Injury
When a small speck of dirt gets into the eye there is a instant feeling of pain and sudden outpouring of tears. Nature is trying to wash the foreign body away. Often this is all that is necessary, but there are times when the offending substance may find its way under the eyelid.
Wash your hands thoroughly before attempting to remove the speck of dirt. Then, with the patient looking down, grasp the eyelid gently, holding it in between the thumb and foreigner. With the other hand press gently against the skin of the upper lid, turning the eyelid inside out where can easily see the speck of dust if it is still present. Gently wipe out the dust using the edge of clean handkerchief, but try to avoid touching the eyeball itself. Then gently replace the eyelid and leave it alone. If the foreign substance is embedded in the eyeball, take the patient directly to a doctors.
