Beat Stress with Yogurt
Yogurt maybe the answer to soothing intestinal problem cause by our hectic lifestyles. Chronic stress is known t be related to ailments like IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) and to make symptopms of Crohn’s diseas and ulcerative coliti worse.
It can also leave your stomach more sensitive and possible allergic to certain foods. Now, new research in the journal Guts show that eating good-for-you bacteria, called probiotics, which are found in some yogurts, may help reduce this stress related stomach troubles.
In the study, researchers took rats and created situations that would effect their stomach the same way chronic stress affects ours. For seven days, half the rats were given water containing probiotic bacteria (called lactobacillus helveticus and lactobacililus rhamnosus) before and during the stress session, while half were’nt. The group that ate the probiotics and less bacteria sticking to the cells lining their gut wall and lymp nodes. The authors suggest that brobiotics may compete for space with harmful bacteria and reduce inflamation.
